A loan of $4,650 helped a member to buy and supply yams to foodstuff sellers in Accra.


Onua Do Group's story

Onua Do group is located on the outskirts of Teshie Township. The group members are basically involved in small scale retail sales of such products as yams, milk, wax prints, maize, plastic plates and bags. They have an average age of 30 years and average three children each.

Bernard is a 35-year-old married man and a father of three. His main business is to supply yams to foodstuff sellers in Accra. He buys the items from the northern part of the country where he comes from and supplies customers in Accra where he lives. He has all three children going to school. Bernard is sometimes supported by his wife, who has also been trading in vegetables since 2005. His main clients are foodstuff traders in Accra.

Bernard is determined to use his loan request amount of GHS 1,000 from Kiva partner ID-Ghana to change his life and benefit his family by investing it in his yam business. He is on his forth loan cycle with ID-Ghana and has repaid all previous loan without trouble.

The group needs a total amount of GHS 10,100 so that they can increase stock and serve customers better.
