Tiessiri Group's story

The Tiessiri Group is composed exclusively of married women who have an average age of 49 years and an average of four children. They are all living in large traditional extended families in the village of Dibida, municipality of Kalake, prefecture of Baroueli, in the Segou region (fourth administrative region of the Republic of Mali). They know one another through ties of kinship, vicinity, and friendship. The women of the Tiessiri group are merchants of grain, textiles and prepared food, and are currently on their sixth group loan.

The client Mariam is shown in the photo seated second from the left. She is a restaurateur, and intends to use her loan to purchase two sacks of rice and condiments (vegetables used for local sauces). She hopes to earn a monthly revenue of 25,000 Francs CFA, which will be spent on family expenses.
