A loan of $850 helped a member to buy shoes and underwear.

Periquitas (Flat) Group's story

Las Periquitas (Flat) is the name of this communal bank of four people. Each member has a different business activity aimed at improving their families' lifestyles. The group is located in a small community surrounded by sugar cane fields, with sugar cane cultivation being the main business activity in this area.

Paula sells shoes and underwear by catalogue and on a door-to-door basis in her community and nearby villages. For five years she has been in business helping her husband cover household expenses and providing the basic needs for their three children.

She says she enjoys her work because it allows her free time and has provided her with good friendships. A loan from VisionFund and Kiva will give Paula the opportunity to expand her business by buying more catalogues, shoes and underwear. Paula's additional income will allow her to give her family a better lifestyle.

The other members of the group are:
Mireya, grocery sales
Silvia, jewelry sales
Alicia, fruit and vegetables sales
