A loan of $1,050 helped a member to buy ingredients for a catering business.

Tiessiri Group's story

Tiessiri is a group of 4 women of the Benkadi association in Tiele. The women are all members of the same family or neighbours. They have an average age of 40 years and are all married with an average of 3 children. The group members run different businesses such as the buying and selling of vegetables and catering. Niagale runs a catering business and is standing on the far right of the photo. The women live in large, traditional families in Tiele, in the prefecture of Kati (in the Koulikoro region of the Republic of Mali). They have run their small businesses for several years and there is a strong demand for their products. In order to satisfy the growing demands of their customers, the group members decided to use the loan programme of Soro Yiriwaso three years ago. This will be their sixth group loan.

Niagale is the president of the group and is well-known and much appreciated in Tiele, for the delicious, high-quality food that she prepares. She intends to use this loan to buy ingredients (onions, cabbage), meat and rice for her catering business. She buys her supplies in Bamako and locally, from wholesalers, and sells her meals in Tiele through retail, cash and credit sales to both men and women. She hopes to use her predicted, monthly earnings of 25,000 francs CFA to repay her loan and reinvest in her business.

In this group: Niagale, Oumou, Yata, Mariam
