This 'banc villageois' was newly inaugurated on September 12, 2013. It is composed of women who had to run revenue-generating businesses before joining the 'banc villageois' program with the goal of increasing their financial capacity. The women have all been living in the same district for several years and maintain ties of solidarity and mutual assistance. Their main work involves small-scale commerce.

Ms. Aissatou (standing at the right with her left hand raised and wearing a green tunic) is the featured borrower of the group. She is 35 years old, married, and the mother of three girls, from 2 to 8 years old. Her business involves selling cosmetic products and a variety of beauty supplies, which she purchases either in the sub-region or in the capital in order to resell them in her town. She accepts cash or credit, depending on her relationship with the customer.

With this new loan, she intends to bolster her financial capacity by purchasing 2 dozen of body lotion, one of shampoo, and perfume.

The profits earned will enable her to do more in managing the family's day-to-day expenses.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
