A loan of $4,750 helped a member buy socks.

Dios Con Nosotros Group's story

The Dios con Nosotros Community Bank is beginning its third loan cycle with Pro Mujer as part of the regional bank of Alto Lima. There are eight members and a board of directors headed by Teresa, the president. The members run a variety of businesses such as selling socks, groceries, repairing cell phones, knitting and selling woolen clothing, and carpentry.

The loan they are seeking will benefit women like Sra. Teresa who run small businesses. She joined Pro Mujer three years ago at the invitation of a friend who was also a member of the institution. Now she has a business selling socks. Friends taught her how to sell her merchandise when she needed to earn money after the death of her husband.

The loan money will be used to buy more socks which Teresa obtains from stores at wholesale prices and then sells on her stall. The income from this work enables her to support her family; she is a widow with two children.

When she is asked what she most likes about Pro Mujer, Teresa responds that she likes learning about health and savings.
