A loan of $3,250 helped a member to purchase wool.

Flor De Estrellas Group's story

The communal bank “Flor de Estrellas” (Star Flower) will begin its fourth cycle with Pro Mujer as part of the Regional Hub of Villa Adela. It is composed of nine members and is led by a board of directors, where Julia is the president.

The businesses carried out by the members of the communal bank are varied; among them are: selling candy and cookies, weaving blankets, weaving taris (traditional handmade fabrics), installing gas lines in houses, macramé blankets, sewing sports clothing, and selling medicinal products.

The loan that they will take out will benefit small business entrepreneurs such as Julia. She says that she has been a member of the organization for two years. Currently, she has a business sewing, weaving, and selling blankets.

She began this business several years ago after starting out only weaving blankets that her customers brought to her. Because she made good products, she later learned to weave fabric, and now she does the entire process of making blankets.

The loan that she will take out now is to increase her capital (to purchase wool) that she will obtain from the wholesale markets in the city of El Alto. After making them, she will sell them at the customers’ requests. This kind of work allows her to generate resources to support her household as much as possible, as she lives with her partner and has four children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she replies that she enjoys the education on health and credit.
