A loan of $1,200 helped to buy a pair of oxen.

Luis Alonso's story

Luis, age 60, is married and has four grown and independent children. Due to the fact that his family had few resources, he only went to school up until the third grade. His wife is the only one he lives with, and she devotes herself to the household chores.

He is a farmer. Starting at age ten, he worked with his father and learned all that he now knows. Luis gets up at five in the morning in order to go to work. The place where he works is five minutes by foot from his house. He works five consecutive hours, and he then returns home.

The loan will be used to buy a pair of oxen to work the land and to transport the harvest from the place where it is grown to where it will be kept.

Luis plans to build a cart in order to work with his oxen and not pay a private individual to do the work. He also plans to offer plowing services with his animals in order to have more income for his family. He also wants to buy a cow in order to start a batch of milk production.
