A loan of $400 helped to buy two containers for his mill.

José Pedro's story

José, 35, is married and has three children, ages 11, 9, and 8, all of whom attend school. He stopped going to school to work and help his family because of financial difficulties.

José's a farmer. When he was little he worked with his father, from whom he learned everything he knows. Since then he has earned a living farming. José offers grinding services at home. He has a nixtamal [hominy] mill and his wife helps him with the customers. He farms from 6 in the morning until 12 noon, when he returns home and tends to the mill.

He'll use the loan to buy two containers for his mill because he only has two, which is not sufficient to take care of his customers. He has a lot of customers so they have to wait longer.

José's dream is to be able to have dairy cows and to work another job besides farming. He also wants to build a wall around his house to have better security. One of his goals for his children is to be able to help them go to school; he knows that studying is very important because it offers a lot of job opportunities.
