A loan of $1,500 helped to buy five calves for grazing and three sacks of fertilizer for his banana crop.

Pedro's story

Pedro, 38, is married and has three children, ages 18, 12, and 3. Only the 12-year-old is in school. Pedro went to school up until the sixth grade, because he did not have the economic resources to finish his schooling. Pedro has been a farmer since he was 12. He grows bananas, corn, pipian squash, and other crops. His day starts at four in the morning. He milks three cows, then takes them to the field. To do this, he walks 20 minutes to the place where he keeps them. In the afternoons, his son collects the cattle. The loan will be used to buy five calves to graze, in order to take advantage of the winter grazing, and he will buy three sacks of fertilizer to fertilize the banana plants. His dream is to have a cowshed with lots of cattle and also to have a four-ton truck to sell his goods at the markets, a place where they pay him a better price. With this income, he will help his children to finish their studies.
