Look To God Group's story

Pictured here are members of the “Look To God” group from Koidu, a city in eastern Sierra Leone. They are small-scale businesswomen who have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva, in order to apply for a loan of 500,000 SLL for each in the group. With this loan, they will be able to add more goods to their respective businesses, attract more customers, make more sales and profits, and consequently improve on their living conditions.

The featured leader of this group of entrepreneurs is Kumba. Kumba was born in Tankoro in eastern Sierra Leone. She is married to a miner and the couple has 2 children who are attending secondary schools. Kumba has been selling market food – rice, onions, margi (used to give sauce a sweet taste), pepper, flour, etc. - for the past 3 years now. With her share of this loan, she is going to buy rice, onions, margi (used to give sauce a sweet taste), pepper, flour, etc. in bulk to add to her current stock.
