A loan of $1,100 helped to purchase farmland.

Alfonso's story

Alfonso is 35, married to Edith, and the couple lives in their own wooden home with their two children.

Alfonso always took part in his parents' labors in the fields, so he learned at a very young age to do the humble field work required to achieve good cacao production. For over 16 years, Alfonso has used this experience to start his own farm on land his parents' left him and has become a top regional producer of cacao.

To ensure all of the routine farm work is done, Alfonso hires laborers who are very dedicated to their work and enjoy contributing to a successful season. Alfonso hopes to have sufficient capital to start a productive season with everything he needs, so he needs funds to hire workers and purchase organic manure. This is the first loan Alfonso is applying for from financial institution, and he believes it will provide him with the funds he needs to boost production. Alfonso is applying for 3,000 new soles for the purchase of a small plot of farmland.
