Montecristi, Ecuador / Cosmetics Sales

A loan of $950 helped to buy natural products and cosmetics.

Rosa Maribel's story

The communal bank group "10 de Noviembre" meets every fifteen days in the canton of Montecristi, which is known for its rich, pre-colonial culture and for its nationally and internationally recognized crafts. This is the place of the famous Panama hats.

Rosa lives here. She is forty-six years old and lives in a common-law marriage. Through this relationship, she has three children; two children are older, and the other is sixteen and is studying in high school. Her husband is a tradesman.

Rosa is a very good housewife. In order to obtain her own income, and thereby help to cover home and school expenses, she makes a living selling natural products and cosmetics. She sells door-to-door, and works three to four days a week. She works in the mornings, since this is the coolest part of the day; the cooler temperature makes it easier for her to deliver and carry her products. She has been doing this for more than seventeen years, and it has allowed her to move herself forward.

This loan will be used to buy natural products and cosmetics. She has been with the communal bank since its beginning, and she likes it because the loans help her to get ahead.

Her dreams are to continue growing in both her business and in her personal life.
