A loan of $250 helped to buy agricultural inputs to maintain and improve her coffee crops.

Rosenda's story

Rosenda is 50 years old, and is a farmer and homemaker. She is the mother of eight children, who help their parents with different tasks in the fields. Rosenda's specialty is the planting and cultivation of coffee. This is the predominant occupation in the community and in her family, regardless of the competition, since the local middlemen and other buyers have their preferences.

Rosenda was not able to complete any schooling, as her parents were unable to support her in studying due to their lack of financial resources. It was her parents who taught her to work the soil, as they are also farmers and work their own land, located about ten minutes away.

She sees that it is necessary to maintain and improve her coffee crops, and she has therefore sought a loan from the COMIXMUL cooperative in order to buy agricultural inputs such as fertilizers, manure, and urea, including a specific "coffee formula" fertilizer. Her plans for the future are to extend her crops and buy more land in order to plant a greater range of coffees, including the Caturra and Lempira varieties, which are competitive in the marketplace. Her dreams as a mother are to be able to give a full education to her daughter and to do better for her family with every day that passes.
