A loan of $250 helped to purchase increased amounts of maize, aiding her to improve her overall sales.

Adwowa's story

Although she received no prior formal education, Adwowa is an entrepreneur. She prepares and sells ‘Kenkey’ (a traditional Ghanaian dish made from corn dough and wrapped in banana leaves). She can be found selling ‘Kenkey’ in Wakrom (near Cape Coast). She has been involved in this enterprise for four years. Adwowa is married and has six children. Her husband works as a farmer. The proceeds from her ‘Kenkey’ business normally go towards helping her husband cover the family’s general expenses and pay their children’s school fees. Adwowa will use this loan to purchase increased amounts of maize, thus aiding her to improve her overall sales. With her new profits from her expanded business, Adwowa plans to further diversify the types of products that she sells, hence adapting to changing customer preferences.
