A loan of $2,700 helped to open a storefront and hire an employee.

Joel-Lean's story

Joel-Lean moved from Brooklyn, New York to Manassas, Virginia four years ago and found it difficult to find affordable hair care--especially hair braiding. She got the idea to start her own home-based business one year ago. She offers her clients hair care and styling services: trims, removals, braids, twists, dreads, weaves, wigs, etc.

"I love the idea of providing a service that is going to boost one's self-esteem for an affordable price. I have been given the opportunity to provide a service that is needed in my community. Not only am I their stylist, but I am also a friend, therapist, and anything else my client needs during and after their appointment," she says.

Joel-Lean is very passionate about the clients she serves and hopes to use the funds to open a storefront and hire an employee.
