A loan of $625 helped to buy clothing, jeans, and household appliances to sell.

Oscar Jesus's story

Oscar is 46 years old and lives in the municipality of Malambo, which is a metropolitan section of the city. He lives with his wife and his two children, ages 14 and 18. For the past 10 years, Oscar has managed his own retail business in which he sells clothes and household appliances. He previously worked for other people since he was a young man.

Oscar currently conducts cash sales on a daily basis. He works every day of the week from 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. Oscar makes his sales at a border town where he is able to obtain special prices directly from his suppliers. His main customers are neighbors and relatives. Oscar’s goal is to increase his sales and improve his family’s quality of life. However, his greatest challenge has been obtaining funding sources. Today he is applying for a Kiva loan, his first form of financing through Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. He will use the money to buy clothing, jeans, and household appliances because he intends to increase his inventory. This will enable him to sell more and earn a little more profit.
