Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $1,175 helped to purchase more assorted drinks, a fan and a music set to expand her business.

Ernestine's story

Meet Ernestine. She is a 29-year-old from Jui, the eastern area of Freetown. She is single with one child aged ten. For the past seven years, Ernestine has run a bar and restaurant business she established within the Jui community. She began this business because she wants to generate a permanent source of income to support her child and parent; she works at the business from 8:00 am until 7:00 pm, 7 days per week. She says that the main challenge to her business is that during rainy season sales are very slow.

Ernestine requires a loan in order to purchase more assorted drinks, a fan and a music set to expand her bar and restaurant business. She hopes that the extra income from this loan will allow her to become more successful and repay her loan. In the future, Ernestine plans to expand and open another outlet. She thanks you for your support.
