Merlita is married and has seven school age children and resides at Cabgan, Tambulig, Zamboanga del Sur. To make a living, she manages the family's own fishpond. Her previous loan that was used in her fishing business has been successfully repaid.
Recently, she borrowed a new loan of 15,000 PHP to purchase fishing materials like fishing nets. She plans to use the additional revenue to improve the general living conditions of her family and pay the tuition fees of her children.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
