A loan of $1,300 helped to buy animal feed, chickens and pigs.

Rosa Elena's story

Rosa is a member of the La Merced credit group. She lives in the parish of Santa Ana in Cuenca, a place which has a cold climate and is surrounded by several mountains. The city of Cuenca can be seen from her parish centre. The local people work in business, rearing animals and in agriculture and many work in the city doing various different jobs.

Rosa is 40 years old and is married with 4 children aged 20, 18, 14 and 9. The oldest two are working and help her financially, her third son is studying at college and the youngest son goes to a small school nearby.

Rosa's husband works in construction and the house they live in is their own. Rosa looks after the home and also rears pigs, chickens and cows from which she sells milk and also uses it for their own consumption. When she needs some money she sells some animals in her local community.

Rosa will use the money from the loan to buy animal feed, pigs and chickens. Her goal is to have more animals of better quality.
