A loan of $1,500 helped to pay for a new connection and network improvements.

Vahan's story

Vahan is from Gyumri town. It has already been 10 years since Vahan started providing telephone services. Particularly he provides telephone connections abroad and gives locals an opportunity to talk with their relatives abroad. As the emigration rate of Armenia is very high and almost every household here has a relative abroad, Vahan's service is in high demand. Due to his hard work over these 10 years, Vahan was able to form a client base that only uses his provided service. Now, this hardworking young man needs financial support to be able to make network improvements and pay for a new connection which has higher quality and speed.
Vahan has now been approved for a loan within the framework of a new joint initiative between Kiva and SEF International. The start-up loan program provides business start-up loans with soft conditions to informal businesses that do not have access to credit products. This loan is very important for Vahan to be able to expand his business and provide better quality service to his customers. Vahan lives together with his parents and brother and is the only breadwinner of the family.
