Comision Vecinal Del Barrio Azucena Group
In this Group: Desiderio, Leonor, Christian
This neighbourhood commission in Coronel Oviedo's Azucena district was formed on February 13, 2004, since when it has been supplying drinking water to the residents of the Azucena district. They currently have their own well and water tank, which enables them to supply water to 370 families, meaning that approximately 1,480 people have access to this commodity which is so vital to mankind. They are applying for the loan, in the first instance, to buy water meters so they can make users aware of the need to use water carefully and to continue offering this vital service with the same high quality. This water supply business is benefitting the whole community and so they are seeking the loan so they can offer a better service, continue to develop the business and make this vital liquid available to more people. In the group photo, we see Desiderio (the president of the water supply business), Leonor (the treasurer) and Cristian (the vice-treasurer).

More information about this loan

This loan will help fund a new product Fundación Paraguaya has launched called "Ikatu Agua" that will enable people in remote communities to dig wells, build pipelines and install water meters to expand access to clean drinking water. Loans like these are given to sanitation boards, which represent their entire communities. These groups contract builders and oversee construction of water distribution systems, while collecting repayments from impacted community members. These repayments are pooled and returned to Kiva to be credited to lenders.

About Fundación Paraguaya

Fundación Paraguaya is a financially self-sustaining social enterprise that promotes entrepreneurship in urban and rural areas through microfinance, education programs, and more. Its focus on agriculture has helped many farmers boost their crop yields. And a number of other borrowers have taken out loans to start and grow social businesses that have helped deliver eyeglasses, medicines and other helpful services in their local communities.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
