A loan of $275 helped to purchase a mobile phone, solar charging set and weighing scale so that he may provide vital farming information to his community.

Christopher's story

Christopher is 45 years old. He is married with 6 children. He earns his income through the sale of crops and monthly compensation as a Community Knowledge Worker (CKW). Community Knowledge Workers are trusted community members, who provide agricultural data and advice to rural farmers in their local area including information about the weather, market prices, crop diseases and agricultural tools. On his land Christopher grows maize, beans and bananas. He also has chicken, cattle and goats.

Having served as a CKW for the last two years, Christopher looks forward to renewing his CKW contract for the next three years. As a CKW, he will use the materials in his business-in-a-box (smartphone, solar charging set, and weighing scale) to disseminate vital agricultural information to the other members of his village, helping them to improve their crop yields and increase their incomes.

Christopher will use the additional money he will earn as a CKW to pay school fees for his children. His biggest dream in life is to be a role model farmer.
