A loan of $275 helped to purchase a mobile phone, solar charging set, and weighing scale so that she may provide vital farming information to her community.

Everce's story

Everce is 37 years old and married with 2 children. She earns her income through sale of crops and the monthly compensation she receives as a Community Knowledge Worker (CKW). Community Knowledge Workers are trusted community members, who provide agricultural data and advice to rural farmers in their local area including information about the weather, market prices, crop diseases and agricultural tools. On her land Everce grows maize, beans, and millet. She also has chickens, pigs, and goats.

Everce has served as a CKW for the last two years and she looks forward to renewing her CKW contract for the next three years. As a CKW she will use the materials in her business-in-a-box (smartphone, solar charging set, and weighing scale) to disseminate vital agricultural information to the other members of her village, helping them to improve their crop yields and increase their incomes.

With the additional money she will earn as a CKW, Everce plans to pay school fees and start a small retail shop. Her biggest dream in life is to become self-reliant.
