Bosco's story

Bosco is 45 years old. He is married and has 8 children. He earns his income through the sale of crops and the monthly compensation he receives as a Community Knowledge Worker (CKW). Community Knowledge Workers are trusted community members, who provide agricultural data and advice to rural farmers in their local area including information about the weather, market prices, crop diseases and agricultural tools. On his land Bosco grows maize, coffee and rice. He also has goats and pigs.

Bosco has served as a CKW for the last two years and he looks forward to renewing his CKW contract for the next three years. As a CKW, he will use the materials in his business-in-a-box (smartphone, solar charging set, and weighing scale) to disseminate vital agricultural information to the other members of his village, helping them to improve their crop yields and increase their incomes.

With the additional money he will earn as a CKW, Bosco will open up a retail shop in his community. His biggest dream in life is to educate all his children up-to university level and that they get good paying jobs.
