A loan of $1,475 helped to buy a small parcel of farmland.

Margarita's story

Margarita, 33, lives with her spouse, Teodoro, and their four children in her own house. She’s worked in agriculture for the last ten years on her 2 hectares of land that she acquired when still very young with her husband’s help. She grows organic cacao beans, coffee, barbasco [an evergreen bush] and fruit trees on her and. Her husband is her staunch supporter and sometimes her children help out with the less strenuous chores. Her main work consists in providing the best possible care for her various crops in order to obtain good quality fruit at the end of the growing cycle and then take them to her local sales center. Her favorite product among the ones she produces is the organic cacao because of the good sales price it commands; it’s a very profitable product. This is her 4th Kiva loan and she feels grateful for the financial support she’s gotten to continue moving forward. She also commits to make her payments punctually. On this occasion she needs to have 4,000 new soles to buy a small parcel of land to expand her cocoa bean crop.
