A loan of $1,000 helped a member buy fertilizers and pesticides.

Phalla's Group's story

Phalla, 23, is married and lives with her husband and one child in a village in the Dambae district of Kampong Cham province. She and her husband are farmers who grow cassavas on 2 hectares of farmland. Having been in this business for three years, she is able to earn about 7,000 KHR per day to meet the family’s needs. Phalla’s group consists of two members who are both female. She is a third-cycle client while her co-member is a fifth-cycle client with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. Phalla has successfully paid back her past loans, which have helped her relieve the financial burden for her family and improve their livelihood. Now she is requesting another loan with VisionFund. Phalla, who is the leader, will use her portion to buy fertilizers and pesticides for her cassava farm. She hopes to increase her crop yields and earn more income to better off her family’s living conditions.
