A loan of $725 helped to buy organic fertilizer and to pay for area workers.

Elsa's story

Elsa is 31 years old. She is the single mother of 2 children with whom she lives in a house built from wood. She works in agriculture on some land she acquired when she was young with the help of the man who was the father of her children. At first she had the help of her then spouse and after her separation she had to support her children alone. She has a considerable amount of trees that produce cacao pods, since her land is very fertile. She also has the help of some area workers.

She says that she needs to have the money to pay for normal expenses such as buying fertilizer and paying for the personnel. She can recover the costs when she finishes the growing season, selling to area warehouses. This is her fourth loan with Kiva and she is grateful for the financial support that she is receiving to get ahead. At this time, she wants to have 2,000 to buy organic fertilizer and to pay for area workers she hires to harvest her crops.
