Candelaria Obe
Candelaria is originally from the department of Beni. She has three children, four grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. She became a widow six years ago and has already turned sixty, but in spite of her age she is still healthy, strong, hardworking, and above all a very kind and responsible woman. Cande, as she is called, says she has been living in Chimore for approximately thirty years. She and her husband bought a little house which has a tourist attraction (La Laguna) and worked together to help her family, but sadly she lost her husband. Since then she has continued to work, looking after children and selling food. However, she now wants to have a more peaceful life; for this reason, she is requesting a loan to refurbish the rooms she has and rent them out to obtain fixed income, as she does not have a pension and her children live in the city of Cochabamba.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
