A loan of $275 helped to buy a bulk quantity of fabric softeners and detergent.

Dora Gracierla's story

Dora is 59 years old and lives in the city of Barranquilla with her husband and her 25-year-old daughter. She has been offering laundry services since 2003 after a friend suggested that she open this type of business. Dora also irons curtains, bed sheets, tablecloths, and other items. The main supplies that she purchases with cash are detergents and fabric softeners, which are used in the laundry process.

All of Dora’s customers live near her shop and request her services. She tries to make herself available as much as possible since it makes her customers feel like they have been well-attended and they will want to return to her business. For this reason, her goal going forward is to buy an industrial washing machine since this will increase her sales potential and her profits. It will also save her time, money, and work.

At the moment, Dora is applying for a Kiva loan, her first form of financing with Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. She will use the money to buy a larger volume of fabric softeners and detergents than usual. This investment will be successful because she will be able to obtain volume discounts, which will have an impact on her earnings.
