Afia's story

Afia, 40 years old, is married with four children, aged 17, 15, 12, and 6 years respectively. They are currently in school. She is a petty trader who sells yams and rice. She has been selling these products for the past fifteen years and has always been a great resource for her family.



Afia wants to use this loan to buy in bulk a supply of rice and yams to serve her customers throughout the season, especially in the face of increasing food prices due to the current food crisis in the country.She believes this loan will also enable her to decrease her costs very significantly to increase savings to support her children at school. Afia is a member of the trust group called Disciples. In this group, members guarantee for one another as social collateral to access loans and peer pressure to repay the loans.
