Phos, a rural villager from Banteay Meanchey province's Presnet Preah district where rice farming is a popular business in the neighborhood, is 53 years old and has six children. Phos is a rice farmer. Having engaged in this business for 25 years, Phos is able to save up to five US dollars per day from her current business after deducting the expenses.

This is the first-cycle loan for Phos with Kiva's partner, VisionFund. She is applying for an education loan to cover the entire tuition fee for four years for her son and daughter, who are specializing in marketing and finance and banking.

She highly hopes that this loan will enable her to send her children and also help them to obtain a higher education background, so that they end up with a good job after graduation in order to support the family.

This loan is part of VisionFund Cambodia’s higher education program, designed to provide financing to students in poor households who otherwise lack the financial support to continue their studies. Very few students have the financial resources necessary to go to college. VisionFund Cambodia has designed a lower-interest rate loan product for students, given the financial benefits associated with financing this loan upfront on Kiva. It is disbursed to the borrower in annual installments.
