A loan of $550 helped to buy corn and vegetables.

Erika Del Carmen's story

Erika is 32 years old, and is a single mother of two dependent children who study in a public school in Managua. She works selling fried pork, atol [a traditional cornstarch-based hot drink, also known as atole], and vegetables house to house. This business provides her with the income she needs to support her family.

She is seeking a loan to buy corn to make atol, taking advantage of the fact that in winter the price of corn falls and she can sell more atol and cooked corn to her clients.
