A loan of $1,275 helped to buy ingredients to make sweets.

Alexandra Elizabeth's story

The communal bank "Las Luminosas" meets every 15 days in Las Palmas, in the canton of Montecristi. This is a place that is known for its rich pre-colonial culture and for its handicrafts, which are well-known both nationally and internationally.

This is where Alexandra, 20, lives. She is in a common-law marriage that has produced a one year-old child. Alexandra's husband works with her.

Along with her husband, Alexandra makes and sells a variety of sweets. In the afternoons and evenings they make the sweets, and then later on she takes them to sell from a small sales post that is set up outside their house. Also, her husband goes to other cities to sell them and to deliver them to other retailers. In addition to selling her sweets, Alexandra also has a business selling Avon products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfumes, and accessories for women) to earn a little extra income. She's had this business for more than 3 years, and it has enabled her to get ahead.

With this loan, she will buy ingredients to make her sweets. She is a founder of her communal bank, and she likes it because of the help that is provided with these loans. Alexandra's dream is to provide the best for her baby.
