A loan of $950 helped to buy food.

Carmen Martha's story

The Communal Bank Las Luminosas meet every fortnight in Las Palmas in the area of Montecristi, an area known for its rich precolonial culture and for its crafts which are well known on a national and international level.

Carmen lives here, she is 24, she is married and has two children from this relationship aged 7 and 3. The eldest child is at school and the youngest goes to nursery. Her husband operates heavy machinery.

Carmen, with the aim of earning something for herself, prepares and sells food. Every afternoon she sets herself up in a small shop in her home on vía Portoviejo Manta where there are many passersby. She sells rice stew, meat and roast chicken wings, which are a favourite of her customers as she adds a special touch to the dishes that make them very special. She accompanies her dishes with various fizzy drinks and fruit juices that she makes herself. She started her business a year ago with the first loan that she received from the Communal Bank and now it allows her to earn something for her family's well-being.

This loan is to buy ingredients to prepare the dishes. She has been a member of the Communal Bank for a year and likes it as it allowed her to start her business.

Her dream is to have a great restaurant.
