A loan of $650 helped to buy straw hats.

Ángela Janet's story

The Communal Bank Aníbal San Andrés meets once a fortnight in Cantón Montecristi, which is known for its rich precolonial culture and its crafts which are recognised at a National and International level. The place is famous for its straw hats.

Ángela lives here, she is 43, married and has three children aged 11, 9 and 5 from this relationship, who are all at school. Her husband is a bricklayer.

Ángela is a great wife and mother who is a salesperson as well as taking care of her home. She sells straw products like hats and decorations among other things. To sell her products she travels to Quito, Guayaquil and Esmeraldas every week to deliver her products to business people in these areas. She spends two days in these cities until she has run out of products and the she returns home and travels to another city the following week. She buys her merchandise from artisans in slums. The best selling products are the straw hats that are valued by national and foreign tourists.

She will use this loan to buy more straw hats to sell to her customers. She has been a member of the Communal Bank for more than 8 years and she likes the help she received.

Her dream is to have her own home as she currently lives in her mother's home.
