A loan of $1,075 helped to buy fish.

Gertrudis Maribel's story

The Communal Bank Aníbal San Andrés meets once a fortnight in the Cantón Montecristi, home of the famous straw hats.

Gertrudis lives here, she is 43, she is married and has three adult children from this relationship who still live at home. Her husband is unemployed as he has been unwell for a long time.

Gertrudis is a house wife and, to cover the household expenses as her husband cannot work, she sells fish. She travels the city and the outskirts of Montecristi selling the best fish to her customers. She works four days a work from 5 am until 12 noon when she travels to Manta to bring the best fish to her customers. Normally she sells all her stock and sometimes she sells out before the end of her working day. She has worked in this trade for more than 12 years and has used it to support her family.

This loan is to buy fish for her business. She has been in this Communal Bank for 7 years and she likes it because the loans are a big help to her.

Her dream is to have a shop where she can sell her products.
