Djiguisseme Group's story

The Djiguisseme group is made exclusively of married women, who, on average, are 46 years old and have five children. All live in traditional extended families in the Badialan neighborhood in the town of Fana, Koulikoro region (in the second administrative region of the Republic of Mali). The group members know each other through family, neighborhood, and friendship ties.

The group members sell condiments, charcoal, cereals, and other diverse goods like pottery. The women of the Djiguisseme group are on their sixth group loan, and will use it to buy the various merchandise described above.

Chata, the person seated on the right, plans to buy 50 canaris [a type of pottery container] and 10 jars in Fana. She hopes to earn an average monthly income of 25,000 francs CFA, which she will reuse in her business.
