Omar Ernesto
Omar, 27, only completed elementary school due to his parents’ economic situation because they worked in agriculture. He has a spouse and his wife does household chores; they have a three-year-old son.

Since he was little he’s worked in agriculture since that was his father’s occupation. He works 7,000 square meters of corn and has to rise at 4am to reach his parcels that are located 3 kilometers from home. Also, he has oxen that he uses to make the trip or to do other agricultural chores. He works alongside his parents since he’s an only son and he helps them work and is always watching over them. He works from dawn until noon and then works with his oxen doing agricultural chores.

The loan will be used to buy agricultural supplies like manure and fertilizer to prepare the soil to plant 7,000 square meters of corn. He hopes to better care for the corn crop so that yields at harvest will be larger and family income will increase.

He hopes to build a brick house because the one he currently lives in is daub and wattle; he also wants to buy animals to put out to pasture.

More information about this loan

This loan is part of a CrediCampo project to help rural farmers living in extreme poverty plant basic grains to feed their families. Excess product is sold on the local market. These loans are smaller than the typical loans offered by this field partner, and guarantee requirements are also reduced. Individuals who receive this type of loan also get access to technical assistance, information on good environmental practices and increased access to farm inputs like fertilizer. This is considered a high risk loan due to the population and loan purpose, and CrediCampo is one of the very few institutions in El Salvador willing to working with these farmers.
