A loan of $300 helped to buy agricultural supplies.

Nelson Oswaldo's story

Nelson, 44, only completed second grade because his parents had very few resources. His wife helps him with the agricultural chores. They have four children together (23, 18, 14 and 7 years of age). Two are still in school and two work.

His only business has been agriculture, an occupation he learned from his older brothers who would take him to the corn fields to help them work. He therefore has 26 years’ experience in agriculture. To do his work he gets help from his wife and oldest son. They work from 6-11 in the morning and they get around by bike since their parcel is located a kilometer away from home.

The loan he’s requesting is to buy fertilizer, pesticide and herbicide to provide proper care for the corn crop. He states that he will continue working and that he expects to increase his planted area from 14,000 square meters to 21,000 square meters. He will increase production thus and be able to generate income to support his family. He wants to improve his family’s quality of life which is why he intends, God willing, to make home improvements because the house they life in now is deteriorated and not in optimum living condition. He also wants to help his children become upstanding citizens setting a good example for them.
