A loan of $1,500 helped to buy 15 bags of fertilizer, a gallon of herbicide and other supplies to plant 21,000 square meters of corn.

Ernestina's story

Ernestina is 50 years old, married and has three children. She only studied up to Grade Two. She has 15 years of experience growing corn and raising livestock. She learned these activities along with her husband. As she had little education she couldn't get a formal job and to keep the family going she has to work every day cleaning, fertilizing and taking care of their corn. They also have one cow and they sell milk and cheese daily to their neighbors.

Ernestina is requesting this loan to buy 15 bags of fertilizer, a gallon of herbicide and other supplies to plant 21,000 square meters of corn. To make this purchase she'll take a bus to the city which is a 45 minute ride. With this investment she'll avoid making many trips to the city to buy these supplies in small amounts, as it costs her money and takes up a lot of time. With the supplies at her house she can manage her crops well. This will give her a higher yield and increased profits. Her dream is to open a shop, to have a daily income and help the neighbors, offering them basic food goods.
