A loan of $200 helped to buy organic manure.

Nerida's story

Nerida is 25 years old and shy. She lives with her husband, Helder, with whom she has four children to look after, in her aunt's house. While Nerida makes a living looking after farmland, her husband's job is buying and selling animals such as bulls, sheep, and pigs. Nerida tells us that, thanks to this work, the couple are able to cover daily household costs, such as food and the children's school costs. In the beginning it was very difficult to start to earn an income because the couple did not have the necessary capital. Nevertheless, with a lot of effort and patience, the couple saved up the money. Now, Nerida is hoping to be able to improve her potato, corn and other crops, which she grows on rented land, in a business with other farmers. Nerida still does not have her own land. This is Nerida's first Kiva loan and she is grateful for the financial support being provided as it helps her to improve her business. Nerida promises to be punctual with her repayments. Nerida will invest the 500 Nuevo Soles in buying organic manure to nourish her seeds. She will also buy alfalfa to help feed the animals.
