A loan of $375 helped to purchase organic fertilizer.

Sonia's story

Sonia is a hard-working 48-year-old woman. She lives with her husband Zosimo and three of her nine children, in a house that the family has rented for 13 years.

Sonia has been a farmer for the past 20 years. She always enjoyed walking through farm fields, and her parents instilled their values in her when she was very young. Sonia owns her own land, which she manages meticulously as it is next to a river. "The fields are very productive because they're irrigated," she notes, "and I earn a good income from my farm."

Sonia sells her produce in Lima, where she has regular customers. She also raises animals, which provide additional income to stabilize the family's finances over the long term. This is Sonia's second Kiva loan, and she is grateful for the financial support of lenders, which has helped to improve her business. Sonia is therefore determined to make timely payments. She will use the 1,000 soles to purchase organic fertilizer to use for her next plantings.
