A loan of $575 helped to purchase thyme seeds and organic fertilizer.

Yolanda's story

Yolanda is a young lady of 23. She is single and lives in La Guadalupana Neighborhood, Chaquijyá Village, Sololá. She lives with her parents and her four siblings, working together to financially support their family.

She works in agriculture growing thyme on plots of land that her family has around their home. She learned to do this from her parents since she was a little girl, when she worked for half the day and studied during the other half.

Now, she has been working independently in agriculture for 10 years since she finished school. Because of the lack of existing job opportunities, she decided to start her own farm, which has now become her principal source of income.

She has seen that the earnings generated from working in farming are excellent. Therefore, she wants to expand her harvest by requesting a loan of 4,500.00 Q for the purchase of thyme seeds and organic fertilizer that she needs to farm and so have successful sales, improving her income alongside her family.

Her dream is to continue working and helping out her family, improving their living conditions and likewise supporting her other siblings who are still studying in the community’s school.
