Anabela is 20 years old. She is single and lives in the small town of La Guadalupana, in Chaquijyá, in Sololá, Sololá, along with her parents and four siblings. They all work together to support the family.

She is a hardworking person and currently works in agriculture, planting thyme on parcels of land owned by her family that are just a few steps from their house. She’s learned this from her parents since she was a child. She now works half the day and spends the other half studying to be a primary school teacher. She has been working independently in agriculture for 10 years, helping her parents economically so that she could finish her last year of high school. This was how she decided to start her own crop and make it her main source of income.

She has seen that her crop generates a good income. So, she wants to expand cultivation by requesting a loan of GTQ 4,500.00 (Guatemalan Quetzales) to buy tomillo seeds and organic fertilizer. She needs these for planting so she can have successful sales and improve her income, along with her family.

Her dream is to continue expanding her crop and helping her family improve its living conditions. She also wants to support her siblings so they can continue studying and finish their academic studies.

Anabela es una joven de de 20 años de edad. Ella es soltera y vive en el Caserío La Guadalupana, Aldea Chaquijyá, Sololá, Sololá, junto a sus padres y sus cuatro hermanos que trabajan juntos apoyando al desarrollo de la familia.

Ella es una mujer trabajadora que actualmente se dedica a la agricultura cultivando tomillo, en parcelas que tienen con la familia a unos pasos de su vivienda. Esto lo aprendió de sus padres desde niña ahora ella trabaja la mitad del día y la otra mitad estudia la profesión de maestra de educación primaria. Tiene 10 años de trabajar en el campo de la agricultura como independiente apoyando a sus padres económicamente para que ella pueda terminar el último año del colegio. De ese modo decide emprender su propio cultivo convirtiéndose en su principal fuente de ingresos.
Ella Ha visto que las ganancias que le genera su cultivo son buenas, de este modo quiere ampliar su cultivo solicitando un préstamo de Q 4,500.00 para la compra de semillas de tomillo y abono orgánico, que necesita para cultivar y luego tener ventas exitosas mejorando sus ingresos junto a su familia.
Ella tiene como sueño seguir ampliando su cultivo ayudando a su familia y mejorar condiciones de vida, también apoyar a sus demás hermanos para que sigan estudiando y terminar una carrera académica.

ADICLA's youth entrepreneurship loans allow young people without prior credit histories to borrow in groups, an opportunity that is not offered by many other microfinance institutions in Guatemala. The loans will be used to help them start small businesses.


ADICLA (Association for the Holistic Development of the Basin of Lake Atitlán) is nonprofit rural community development association that provides small loans and services to improve quality of life in two of the poorest regions of Guatemala, home to large indigenous populations. Kiva funding will be used to support three innovative credit initiatives: youth business loans, green loans, and smaller loans to help ADICLA move down-market and serve poorer clients.
