A loan of $850 helped to buy firewood, sawdust and y palm fibers.

Manuela Margarita's story

In Los Bajos de Montecristi, a city known for the diversity of its typical products such as the straw hats famous both within and outside of the country, the members of the La Dolorosa Del Pechiche communal bank meet every day. This is where Manuela lives, she is 55 years old, she is a single mother to a son who is now an adult and is independent. Manuela is a woman who, despite her age, likes to be self-sufficient and earn her own income. Along with her son, she owns a brick factory (material used to build homes), which is where her son works together with two assistants. They are responsible for making the bricks which they then deliver to trades who come to the site in order to then transport them to the different areas in which they are sold. Manuela helps them by collecting what they sell and brings them food where they work. They have been doing this work for 15 years now and it is going very well, this is how they are getting ahead in life. This loan is to buy firewood, sawdust and palm fibers which are the materials used to make these products. Manuela has been part of the communal bank for 8 years and she likes it for the help given with the loans. Her dream is to have a vehicle to carry the products directly to the construction sites.
