A loan of $625 helped to purchase rice.

Fatoumata's story

Fatoumata is 64 years old, married, and the mother of 2 children. She lives in a nuclear family with her husband and children in the Bagadadji neighborhood of Ségou (the fourth administrative region of Mali.) Not having attended school for social reasons, due to being in a traditional Dogon family, she began conducting her small business independently at an early age. She has been in business for 25 years and enjoys a large customer base and has the benefit of extensive experience.

Fatoumata's strength in her business is due to the quality of her Gamiaka rice, highly popular with consumers. In addition, she often receives orders from her neighbors and also from Bamako where she has a large customer base. In the hope of increasing her business funds in order to meet her customers' needs, she turned to Soro Yiriwaso. Fatoumata has been in a partnership with them for 48 months, during which time her 2 group loans and 2 individual loans have been fully repaid.

Fatoumata is on her 3rd individual loan which she plans to use to purchase 1 ton of rice. She stocks up in Niono, and sells for cash and credit to a customer base made up mostly of women. Fatoumata hopes to earn a monthly profit of 70,000 francs CFA, which she will use to pay back her loan and to help her husband care for the family's expenses. Her dream is to expand and diversify her business.
