Siguidia Group

Siguidia Group is an association of women from the Koko district of the city of Koutiala. They are all married and living in large traditional families with their husbands, children and other relatives. Their average age is 33 years old, and they each have at least four children. This group of women sells diverse goods, such as fabric, prepared foods, peanut paste, condiments, etc.. In order to increase the size of their operations, the members have decided to join the loan program of Soro Yiriwaso. They are on their first group loan.

Aicha is a Siguida Group member, shown seated in the center of the photo. She plans to use her loan to buy packages of fabric, sheets, curtains, and blankets. She purchases these fabrics at the large Burkinabé market. She sells her products at retail and for cash from her home and at the market to a diverse clientele.

While other members of the Siguidia Ggroup hope to earn an average income of 155,000 Francs CFA each during this cycle, Aicha hopes to earn 170,000 Francs CFA. In addition to the repayment of loans, they use part of their income to meet personal expenses and increase their business capital.

Siguidia est un regroupement de femmes du quartier Koko de la ville de Koutiala qui vivent dans de grandes familles traditionnelles avec leurs maris, enfants et autres parents. Elles ont en moyenne 33 ans, sont mariées et ont au moins 4 enfants.
Ce groupe de femmes fait le commerce d’articles divers tels, les tissus, de la restauration, de pâte d’arachide, de condiments, etc.
Pour augmenter la taille de leurs activités, les membres ont décidé d’intégrer le programme crédit de Soro Yiriwaso. Elles sont à leur premier prêt de groupe.
Aicha est un membre du groupe Siguidia assise aux milieux.
Elle compte utiliser son prêt pour acheter des colis de tissus, draps, rideaux, couvertures. Elle se procure de ces tissus au grand marché avec les Burkinabés. Elle vend ses articles en détail et au comptant à la maison et au marché et à une clientèle diverse.
Tandis que les autres membres du groupe Siguidia comptent réaliser un bénéfice moyen de 155.000CFA chacune au cours de ce cycle Mme Aicha compte réaliser 170.000FCFA.
En plus du remboursement des prêts, elles utilisent une partie du revenu pour faire face aux dépenses personnel et augmenter son fond de commerce.

Soro Yiriwaso is a microfinance institution that works primarily in rural and semi-urban areas of Mali to provide underprivileged communities with access to financial services.The organization facilitates access for disadvantaged clients, particularly women, to new resources and services, fostering solidarity and cooperation among its clients. Kiva lenders’ funds will enable Soro Yiriwaso to expand its outreach and target even more underserved Malians involved in business and agriculture.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
