Ruzica is a married mother of three adult children, living together in the southern part of Kosovo in a minority community. At this time she is working as a cleaner in a hospital and her husband is working as a guard, but both of them have very low salaries. During the winter time in Kosovo the temperatures can become freezing and it's usually very cold with snow.

Now, for the first time, Ruzica is asking for a loan to pay for steam heating in her home. She wants to install the heating system for warming the house, which will help her to warm her house more effectively and efficiently and help prevent her children from getting the flu and other illnesses. Ruzica believes that with this loan her dream of a better heating system and warmer winters will finally come true. Without the help of this loan, it will be impossible to pay for the system from her salary. Her goals are to have better living conditions for her family, to provide them with a healthy environment and future, and to be able to save overall for her family. She wants to thank all the lenders!

More information about this loan

This loan will support the economic aspirations of minority people in Kosovo. Roma people and ethnic Serbians have historically faced a tremendous amount of hardship in Kosovo, and are still socioeconomically and politically vulnerable. During the 1998-1999 war, the fighting displaced 250,000 people. Among those displaced were an estimated 80-90% of the region’s Roma population. Today, Roma and ethnic Serbians living in Kosovo still face discrimination and are excluded from many aspects of society, including fair political representation and high rates of unemployment. By supporting this loan you are helping provide opportunity to marginalized populations.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
