Accesorios Clemente Group
In this Group: Jesús, Josefina, Hilaria
The "Accesorios Clemente" group communal bank is a family group who live in a small but very quiet community. It's inhabitants grow corn, are very rooted in their traditions and proud to be Mazahua people. All three members speak their mother tongue as well as Spanish. Jesús is the representative of the group. He is 28 years old and lives in a common-law relationship with Josefina. They have been together for ten years and have three children, two of which go to school. Jesús and Josefina have a family business selling auto accessories such as colored lights, stickers, deodorizers, steering wheels, side lights, carpets etc. Hilaria will invest her part in her grocery store.

This time Jesús and Josefina are requesting a loan to buy more products, things they do not have, like cables for installing alarm systems, Jesús told us: "Before we had no idea how to install alarms, but now I am taking courses to learn and get my business ahead. The challenge for me is that I don't know how to manage the business. I started it because it was what my father used to do". Jesús has been in the business just three years.

The goal for Jesús is to expand his business but also in the future he would like to open another business close to his house. The current location of his business is on loan to him. He has to pay rent each month and it is an obligation his family has to keep. He would like to take a course in managing his business. He is learning little by little through experience, but he would love to have more formal training.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
